While attending the Macaulay All Age School, San was influenced heavily by his father who used to play the drum. Music was a thing that was always in his blood. By the time he was twelve San knew exactly what he wanted to do with his life - and that was to be a DJ. A product of the Tastee Talent contest (he won the Grand Finals in 1981), Papa San used to DJ on sound systems such as Black Scorpio, Stereosonic and Creation. Soon after winning the Tastee Talent Contest, he recorded his first song, "Touch my Pants Touch My Shoes". This brought him to the publics' attention.His next hit was "Style an Fashion." He soon followed up with "I Will Survive", Legal Rights and Round Table Talk" and more.
Being a DJ is not all fun and glory for Papa San as he will explain, "Being a DJ in some ways can be frustrating, you make a name for yourself people expect certain things from you. Sometimes it can be a strain, you have to prepare and often times you wonder if whatever you prepare is right."
With two girls to take care of, Papa San says it's not always easy being there for them, but a man has to do what a man has to do.
This artist has been to more countries than he could count performing, which includes, Holland, Switzerland, Japan, Peru, and Canada.
With 15 years experience and six consecutive Sting performances under his belt, Papa San is now looking forward to reach platinum on his latest album.
Tyrone Thompson aka Papa San started out with dreams like anyone else. One of eight children, Papa San growing up in the ghetto would find lots of different ways to amuse himself. Papa San recalled the days when "we used to make our own concerts. We played drums on the wall. We used saucepan to make sounds. We did many things with very little," the lyrical DJ stated.
