Bounty Killer was born Rodney Basil Price on June 12 1972. Before, some friends from Riverton City in Kingston had given him the name Bounty Hunter. As a toddler he used to get the chance to change over albums on his father's sound system where he began making lyrics and through the encouragement of his friends, performing at dances.

He then earned the reputation as a mic man in his local community. Being that competition and rivalry is an aspect that is rampant in the dancehall fraternity, another local youngster called Dirty Dog presented Bounty with a challenge. But unfortunately he became Bounty's first clash victim.

At this time, to be a DJ was still a hobby and not really something he saw as a career. Usually he would just take up the mic and perform to impress friends. However his next climb up the ladder was on a set called Stereo Two in Seivreight (Seaview) Gardens. During that time, people were talking about a man in the community who had sexually abused his daughter. It was big news, and so he made a lyrics about it: Big tings a gwaan two thousand four(2004), cause dem ketch a man a give him daughter hardcore.......That lyrics impressed the audience, and from that night he caught a vibes were he continued to write lyrics.

He built more standard lyrics. Shabba did 'Trailor Load of Girls,' so he made 'Trailor Load of Guns' in which he mentioned the name of Natty Morgan who was one of the most wanted man in Jamaica at the time. The lyrics was so wicked that one night police heard it and ran them from out of the dance.

Anyway, it was back at Waterhouse at King Jammy's studio where Bounty's career really took off when he got introduced to Uncle T, Jammy's brother. He had went to the studio three times before he finally got to voice a tune called "Wash the Gun". Jammy's engineer Fatman stated that gun tunes were not taking the market so Bounty went back and did a tune called "Long Time the Gunning Fi Stop", along with "Dip Him", and "Gal Moggle". He was so happy to know that his voice was recorded, and from then he began visiting the studio regularly, voicing a tune every Saturday.

One of the tunes "Dub Fi Dub", was likened by Prento, a sound man from Metromedia who immediately asked Bounty to do a special (dubplate) for the sound. Bounty did not hesitate. He then began to do tunes for King Jammy's sound. Even though Fatman didn't like the gun tunes, Bounty's "Copper Shot" was kicking up a storm in the dancehall along with "Spy Fi Die", "Gal Sey Yes" and such which were later released. With these tunes Bounty began to dominate the dancehall. Uncle T then suggested that he change his name because there were a lot of Bounty Hunters out there. Bounty's remark was that there was nothing out there to hunt so I am a Killer! His first big show was Border Clash 92 where he got numerous gun salutes.

The Killer, now referred to as 'The Warlord' from up a 'Warlord,' apparently derived the title from his conflicts with many different artists along with the content which some of his more popular tunes possess. The DJ returned on the scene late last year from a six month break and since then has been doing a lot of work in the studio. According to the Killer, the artists should not feel offended when he says that since October he has been the ruling force in the Dancehall and gave everyone a chance to prove themselves the previous nine months. One of the main reason why the DJ took so much time off from the music was because he did not want to run into a controversy over the 'DJ of The Year' title like what happened last year. He did not appreciate the fact that many of artists who were nominated alongside him were not of his calibre. Also, there were others who took his style and melody and won the title on previous occasions. Furthermore he regards himself as a DJ for all times because even though he won the title last year from JAMI, he declares that it did not put him anywhere and regardless of the outcome he would still have his confidence and lyrics. Moreover, Bounty thinks that many Jamaicans do not respect the award shows because they have found it to be more like a market thing and therefore not genuine. Bounty also feels that he was overlooked on prior instances not because of talent but attitude.

It is Bounty Killer who is responsible for the fast rising Scare Dem Crew which consists of Boom Dandimite, Elephant Man, Nitty Kutchie and Harry Toddler. Now he is coming out with the Scare Dem II Crew which consists of Bromwell and Daily Bread who were part of the original Scare Dem Crew before the group got narrowed down to four members. Because it is Bounty's pleasure to break new talent, he now has new crew which he is working on called the Priceless Tribe. Here we find artists like Penny Irie, Little Robert, Senior Killer, V.I.P, Mikey Plus, Crackskull and many more. Right now he is in demand to be the manager for these artists because they like how the deejay deals with their career. They have a lot of confidence in Bounty because of his experience and they are highly pleased with his encouragement and counseling. He assists in arranging their music and also shows them how to construct it properly hence they find it risky to move to a new manager who may damage their career. With Johnny Wonder as his manager, The Killer is his own co-manager, and he plans to have Scare Dem management team. The role of the new members would be to offer further management assistance, some of which will be taught from the original mission from the Killer's management camp with an objective to have everything under one umbrella. As a result the deejay has created Scare Dem Music, different from Priceless Records as not to overcrowd one label. The Warlord is behind the entire concept of Scare Dem Music, from its name to its artwork and so far the label has been doing well. One of its biggest hits to date is 'Cry For, Lie For' which is currently very prevalent in the dancehall.

Over the years the deejay feels that politicians in Jamaica have polluted not only the youths but also the elders. A lot of other deejays have intervened since then with music and some have gotten wiser while some continued on the judgement road. Right now he feels that we are the ones who are killing ourselves. In addition, we are fighting a continuous loosing battle when the politicians are not even fighting each other. The deejay continues to embark on the public to wise up, and not to carry out the duties of what the politicians like to see. Africans are used to love and unity in our village with music and dancing but some are getting too amused of Babylon works of firing big guns which makes one feels that they have more strength than another. Bounty feels that if it was taught that everyone is God over things on earth but not God over man, then another would look on and say that his colleague is God so I can't kill him. Instead they look on their brothers and sisters as commoners, with them as the big shot. Furthermore, Babylon puts us in different classes such as rich, poor, ghetto, upper class, PNP, JLP and NDM. Such segregation usually results in conflict when we should all be approaching each other with love and respect. The deejay said that since they tried to kill him in Seaview, mankind is prepared to kill anyone.

Bounty Killer proclaims that he does not study any religion. Instead he praises the Almighty, the creator and ruler over all things on earth. He does not regard the father as God or Jah but simply the Almighty, God over all things. In his opinion, religion is just the way you live. For instance he feels that cutting or plaiting his hair is his religion and since everyone has a religion they should not have a problem with the religion of another. Also, he feels that if one claims that he is pure and righteous then he is put here by the Almighty to show the unrighteous the way. He does not appreciate how some may regard themselves as a Rastafarian and then firburns another. The Almighty healed the sick and made the blind see and did not rejoice when He saw a blind or cripple person, instead He assisted him so a righteous person should do the same. He feels that those who are fireburning people may get a dose of their own medicine, because whatsoever you plant you shall also reap.

People have been asking why they haven't seen the deejay profiling around town or at some of the big bashments. He explains that that’s not what he is about. Instead he bought his car to show the people some evidence of their support and that the money is not being squandered in drugs or any high life, but that family friends and the community is being taken care of. Furthermore, he does not commercialize himself too much at certain venues because the island is small and anything that is too common is not top class. He stated that back in the days he only saw Bob Marley once at a Supermarket and never at a Club or party so he does not see himself living a life making too many unbilled appearances around town. As an artist you should be heard more than seen and since he has been on the scene since August 1992 it’s the first he has made a pause for a positive cause.

In the meantime Bounty says to listen out for his new album called 'Maintaining The Next Level', which features 'Cry For, Lie For' as the title track. Also, 'Scare Dem Way' which is a Scare Dem and Bounty Killer album and 'Scared From The Crypt' or 'Scared From the Hits' from the Scare Dem Crew, as they are still not certain which is the more appropriate title. The DJ has just completed a remarkable performance at Reggae Kwanzaa 97 last December inside of Landilo, Westmoreland. At Sting 97 he stepped on stage in the middle of rival Merciless' act to defend a clash which has been in progress behind the scenes for months. Because Merciless withdrew, the event ended in a riot and many are blaming the Killer for ending the show prematurely. As a result promoters are planning to put an islandwide ban on the artist from future stage shows. At any rate, previous attempts of dampening the Killer's career have been unsuccessful and with his album coming out somewhere around the end of the first quarter of 1998, it seems like the entire year may belong to 'The Warlord From Up Ah Waryard.
